Fifty-year-old Cynthia Jean Reed was in U.S. Federal court Friday on grand jury charges of making false statements in submitting a passport application in 2004.
Authorities say Reed took a Maui woman’s identity to gain a passport, which she used traveling in Florida, the Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico. U.S. State Department investigators worked with authorities in Mexico to locate Reed. She was found in the Mexican resort city of Cabo San Lucas in December.
If convicted, Reed could serve up to 10 years in prison and pay as much as $250,000 in fines. Reed still faces state charges including forgery and assault on a police officer.
