There’s a dinner going on Saturday night at Washington Place to raise money for Hawaii’s fallen officers memorial.
Ground breaking was held back in May during Police Week, but organizers still need to raise $1 million to actually build the memorial.
They’ve already raised $250,000.
It’s been almost 48 years since Officer Abraham Mahiko was shot to death in Kakaako.
His widow and son flew in from Arizona to attend the fundraiser.
"Even though it’s been a long time it’s still difficult at times, to remember his actual passing and it’s still very emotional for me and my family," said Mahiko’s widow, Peal Byrne.
"I think having someplace to go like I said to remember and to know your loss and sacrifice is being acknowledged throughout the country as it always has been and here coming up with the state of Hawaii is definitely a fantastic deal," said Mahiko’s son, Abraham Mahiko Jr.
Sixty-one law enforcement officers in Hawaii have died in the line of duty.
