Authorities say Trianna Chenee Moss, who worked at a Wal-Mart store in Decatur, GA, helped two other people buy $12,000 worth of gift cards and other merchandise. They say the counterfeit credit cards contained a real account number encoded on the magnetic strip.
Moss was indicted on one count of identity theft and credit card fraud for her part in the scam. She appeared in a Georgia courtroom Monday.
According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, the purchases were made between January 1 and February 23, 2010.
"The Senator was immediately informed of the theft in February while on official travel on the island of Maui. This incident illustrates that anyone can be targeted by identity thieves at anytime and we must all work hard to safeguard our personal information. It is also a testament to the effectiveness of our criminal justice system," said Sen. Inouye’s spokesman Peter Boylan.
Police are still looking for the second suspect. The third suspect was not named in the indictment.
