Glider crashes on Big Island

A man is in the hospital after crashing a motorized glider on the Big Island.

According to the Big Island Fire Department the 80 year-old pilot was attempting to land when the glider lost lift.

The pilot unsuccessfully tried to re-start the engine and ended up in a pasture about 150 yards south east of the runway.

The glider sustained moderate damage.

The pilot had chest pains from the harness from the impact of the landing.
He was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital in stable condition.
