On the last day of the session Governor Abercrombie signed a bill that is being called landmark legislation regarding mortgage foreclosures.
Act 48 will require mortgage lenders to meet one-on-one with homeowners before foreclosing on a property.
The goal is to help homeowners in negotiating to get a loan modification.
"This may well be landmark legislation -something that other states can emulate, because it is very progressive, very comprehensive foreclosure reform," says Senator Rosalyn Baker, (D) South and West Maui.
Lawmakers who introduced this bill say they have been receiving calls from people across the country asking how their states can use this legislation as a template.
