The state Department of Transportation says the piece of the H-1 viaduct that closed two lanes on Monday evening was part of an expansion joint.
It was discovered a little before 5 p.m. where west-bound freeway traffic merges with traffic from Nimitz Highway.
As a temporary fix crews cut off the loose piece of the joint and filled the gap.
They will have to go back and permanently fix the gap.
All lanes reopened before 6 p.m.
