Hagar unveils new locally made rum

Rocker Sammy Hagar announced his latest venture Monday afternoon– a Maui-made premium silver rum, called Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum.

The rum is handcrafted at the Hailiimaile Distilling Company on Maui, and is available exclusively around the state through the early part of next year, before expanding to other parts of the mainland.

"So we’re only gonna make cane, only gonna make rum from the islands right here – Maui actually – where all the cane is right now and I wanna make sure that doesn’t disappear ’cause the cane’s disappearing, the pinapple’s disappearing and I live here part time and I love this place," Hagar says.

Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum is made using Maui sugar cane and matures for two years, instead of the standard one year.

The finished product is then bottled by hand at the Maui distillery.

As Hagar mentioned he is a part-time Hawaii resident. He has two homes on Maui.
