And, the man behind the adventure is William Mahony.
"I guess what qualifies me is that I am born on Halloween, October the 31. Some thought I was able to share and that kind of helped initiate me, actually taking one of the lead areas in designing and putting this together," Mahony says.
But the inspiration to create a new theme every year takes a year of planning.
In charge of transforming the canoe hale in the New Zealand village into "Dreams and Nightmares" this year is Seamus Fitzgerald. There, he’s in charge of the spooky stilted creatures.
"The two legs are a little bit easier but it does require a lot of courage I would say first and then just balance," Fitzgerald says.
And, those who use the stilts say practice doesn’t always make perfect – they do still take a spill from time to time.
"The four legged creatures get a huge workout and so we actually have a rotating system where we have chairs we can rest on," Fitzgerald says.
Nearly 300 people including elementary students volunteer to make the Haunted Lagoon a success.
But the extra challenge, Mahony says is being able to set up within a half hour to ensure the haunted lagoon doesn’t take away from the experience of guests visiting that day.
"For the most part we will take away over 90 percent of what you see at night so its not shown during the day," he explains.
With the growing popularity, Mahony says it’s also important to entertain people standing in line.
One of the new attractions here at the haunted lagoon is this 3D vortex tunnel its suppose to throw off your equilibrium before getting on the canoe ride.
"If I can make men or guys my size bigger smaller react while they’re on the canoe and shift right across the canoe perhaps to where they push another person out of the canoe that’s a lot of joy that’s a lot of fun," Mahony says.
Money from ticket sales goes towards daily operations at PCC and education at BYU.
