Hawaii backup QB Shutter suspended first 4 games

HONOLULU (AP) – University of Hawaii quarterback Cayman Shutter has been suspended for the first four games of this upcoming season.

Shutter’s suspension on Friday comes just days after the 21-year-old junior from Kailua, O’ahu pleaded no contest to drunken driving. He is expected to miss games against USC, Lamar, Nevada and Brigham Young.

Head coach Norm Chow said he hopes that Shutter and the entire team will learn from the episode. Chow has yet to determine whether Shutter will be allowed to participate in fall camp which starts on August 1.

Shutter had been suspended indefinitely shortly after he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on March 30.

Athletic Director Jim Donovan said Shutter is remorseful and has been given a second chance, noting that there will not be a third.
