Hawaii county clerk meets with attorney general Thursday

A day after the state said it would take over Hawaii county’s election, the county clerk has called for a meeting with the state attorney general.

Clerk Jamae Kawauchi said she requested a meeting at the A.G.’s office on Thursday to include herself, the state’s chief elections officer, and the Hawaii County deputy corporation counsel.

The clerk and the state office are at odds over the cause of late polling-place openings that resulted in the governor issuing an executive order for extended hours on primary night.

Kawauchi said she also plans to attend the latest in a series of election workshops. they have been taking place in each county the past several weeks, and the next is Thursday on Oahu.
