Hawaii Public Housing Authority executive director to step down

One of the guests on Wednesday’s tour of Kuhio Park Terrace was Denise Wise, the out-going Executive Director of the Hawaii Public Housing Authority.

Wise says she’s leaving the agency for personal reasons and will step down next week.

She has held the position since March of last year and has been at the center of many controversial issues including setting curfews at Kalihi Valley Homes.

"You have to be consistent, the rules have to be very clear – and if there infractions, there’s consequences – and that’s what we have to be," Wise says. "We house 15,000 people throughout the state of Hawaii with over 6,200 units and the number one word is consistency."

Barbara Arashiro, the agency’s executive assistant, will serve as interim executive director.
