Hawaii woman recognized as National Heritage Fellow in DC

A Hawaii woman was recognized in Washington DC on Wednesday.

She’s one of ten people in the country to receive a special recognition for her work in the arts.

Lynne Nakasone was chosen as a National Heritage Fellow.

She runs the Nakasone Dance Academy which teaches traditional Okinawan dancing.

The fellowship is awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts and is the nation’s highest honor in folk and traditional arts.
