Hawaiian Airlines to fill 240 flight attendant positions

Hawaiian Airlines continues to grow and expand.

The carrier is now looking to fill 240 flight attendant positions.

Knowing how to speak Chinese could give applicants an edge.

"I think its all about having the spirit of Hawaii and showing everyone else and just being service," Waialua resident Misha Vidad said.

Hawaiian Airlines says it is looking to fill the new flight attendant positions. This comes after the airline announced Monday that it is expanding to Taipei, Taiwan next year.

"Really what we are looking for is people who can be brand ambassadors for us because even as we move further into destinations, we still need to be pili to who we are." Hawaiian Airlines Director of Recruitment Sunshine Topping said.

The addition of non-stop flights three days a week to Taipei in 2013 is Hawaiian’s ninth new destination.

Airline officials say bilingual applicants, especially those who speak Mandarin, are encouraged to apply.

"Yeah, I am very excited about this and that’s why I am here to see about the opportunity," McCully resident Yao Yu Tsui said. "I speak Mandarin and Taiwanese and part of Cantonese."

"It really helps, I mean it certainly helps whether or not we go to the country of the language that you speak," Topping said.

Hawaiian Airlines officials will meet approximately 3,000 applicants Wednesday and Thursday.

They say the positions are for current openings, all routes, and for people who speak all languages.

"We still like to know that there are still people who can communicate with our guests in their language and we are even testing for Olelo Hawaii," Topping said.

The airline carrier currently employs 4,800 people and plans to add 500 new employees next year.

"They’re the No. 1 airlines out there. They are known for their on-time flights, their awesome quality customer service. I would just love to be a part of that," Wahiawa resident Kanani Chang-Viloria said.

Interested applicants must pre-register online.
