"There’s like Ipads, Macbooks, anything that any kid could want, it’s in this school to help them with their learning and stuff," said 7th Grader Daylin Kuboyama.
"We have glee club, we have robotics, we have all kinds of science fairs, science olympiads, math clubs, we have everything here," said Principal Edward Oshiro.
The school also takes green to a whole new level. It’s the only public school in Hawaii to qualify as a Silver LEED facility. And built in one of the fastest growing communities on Oahu, it’s no surprise that it will reach its capacity of 750 7th and 8th graders by next year.
"We’ve thought about multi-track but hopefully we don’t have to go there because it is a really tough system," Oshiro explained.
A third wing was supposed to be built but that plan is now on hold because there’s no money for it.
"Hopefull in the future if our economy gets better they can build a third wing and we could have another 350 kids here," Oshiro said.
Third wing or not, the kids are pushed to shine. Students were asked to write the school alma mater and Daylin Kuboyama’s work was chosen.
"Ewa Makai we believe in you, your students and your ohana do the best that they can do," said Kuboyama.
Her words will be put to music, and will be part of school history.
"I think it’s really cool it’s like a legend that keeps on going and I’m the one who did that legend," said Kuboyama.
