Heavy rains prompt flood advisories

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the island of Maui until 11:15 a.m.

At 8:18 a.m. radar showed heavy rain near Kipahulu, about 26 miles east of Kahului. Officials say the area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.

The flood advisory for the Big Island is in effect until 10:45 a.m.

At 7:30 a.m. radar showed moderate to heavy rain over portions of the Hilo and Puna districts.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low-lying areas prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility, and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in a vehicle or on foot.

The flash flood warning has expired for Oahu. Weather radar and rain gages showed that heavy rains have ended.
