Hilo boaters cling to hull after boat capsizes

A boat capsized off Hilo and stranded two people in the ocean for about an hour.

The boaters say the 12-foot aluminum vessel was taking on water and capsized off Coconut Island yesterday morning.

They were clinging to the hull for about an hour when crews on shore finally spotted them.

The fire department utilized air-one helicopter to rescue the boaters who were not injured.

The boat was pulled to shore.

Officials say it was windy and ocean conditions were rough when the boaters ran into trouble.
