Nainoa Thompson and his fellow Hokulea crew members are participating in an official arrival ceremony in Bali, Indonesia, Friday afternoon.
The voyaging canoe and crew cleared customs in Bali at Benoa Harbor on Thursday.
Members of Hawaii Indonesia Chamber of Commerce were there to greet the canoe including retired General Darrell Wong, Rep. Gene Ward, David Day and Freedom Dennis. The chamber helped to make the Bali visit possible.
The crew is safe and ready for their week-long engagement in Indonesia.
Apprentice navigator Jenna Ishii successfully navigated Hokulea the second half of this trip from Darwin to Bali. Lehua Kamalu navigated the first half from Darwin to Ashmore Reef.
This is the first time that Hokulea has been in the Indian Ocean in her 40-year history.
