Homeless woman given plane ticket to fly home

A Texas woman who ended up homeless in Hawaii is returning home.

Yughette Baker came to Hawaii last July and because of mental illness ended up on the streets.

But thanks to the work of police officer Erick Tanuvasa and the group "Help the Hawaii Homeless,” Baker was reunited with her mother, Cheryl Walters.

Walters considers her family lucky and encourages other families to help their homeless loved ones get off the street.

"When I came into town off the bus I was just crying because I saw so many people here that family members need to come and get them,” said Walters.

The two can now return to Texas thanks to an anonymous couple who donated money for a plane ticket for Yughette.

The effort was spearheaded by Representative John Mizuno, who has also helped reunite several other homeless people with their families on the mainland.
