HONOLULU (AP) – Six members of the Occupy Honolulu movement pleaded no contest to charges of violating city rules at Thomas Square Park last November.
The six were arrested for entering and remaining in the park after it had closed for the night.
The Honolulu prosecutor’s office said Wednesday the six were granted six-month periods of deferral. They agreed to pay $50 each to the state general fund and $30 each to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund.
Group members had said earlier they planned to begin camping at the park when it closed at 10 p.m. They were protesting ahead of a Hawaii meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
Violation of park closure rules is a petty misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a month in jail and a $1,000 fine.
