Honolulu Prosecutor: Kaneshiro leads Takata with 52.6% after first printout

In the race for Honolulu prosecutor, Keith Kaneshiro is leading Kevin Takata with 52.6 percent of the vote after the first results printout.

Takata currently has 39 percent of the vote after the first printout.

Kevin Takata was a Honolulu Deputy Prosecutor for more than 23 years, a successful trial attorney for the homicide division for seven, another decade as supervisor of the trials division, which is the office’s largest.

As Honolulu prosecutor the first time around, Keith Kaneshiro was the one who placed Takata on the homicide division.

When Kaneshiro was elected to replace Peter Carlisle in 2010, he chose not to reappoint Takata and 10 other deputy prosecutors in an office of about 100.

It’s a race that is highly personal, pitting two long-time prosecutors against each other.

The second results printout is expected to be released in about an hour.
