HPD on special assignment at Pearl City military housing after arson determination

The Honolulu Police Department has placed a unit of four officers on special assignment at the Pearl City Peninsula military housing, after a fire there was determined to have been intentionally set.

Early yesterday morning a home on lowella Avenue was set on fire.

According to police, the suspect left a spray painted message implying there would be more fires.
Monday morning around 3:13, the police unit saw someone walking slowly between some homes.
He had a hood over his head and was wearing white socks with no shoes.
When police tried to stop him, he took off.

Officers later found a 12-year-old boy in a nearby garage.
He was taken into custody, and later released to his parents.
Investigators are not calling him a suspect at this time, and continue to analyze evidence found at the scene.
