Big Island Police are investigating the death of a two-month-old baby.
Kona patrol officers responded to a home on Mamalahoa Highway in Holualoa at about 5:45 a.m. Monday to a report of an unresponsive baby girl.
The child’s mother told police that she found her baby in bed unresponsive. The mother had called 911 and was instructed to perform CPR until rescue personnel arrived.
Fire Department personnel continued resuscitation efforts and took the baby to the Kona Community Hospital.
The baby was pronounced dead just before 6:30 a.m.
Police do not suspect foul play.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
