Kauai: bodysurfer airlifted to Oahu after surfing accident

PO’IPŪ — A 59-year-old Honolulu man was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center on Tuesday after a body surfing incident at Shipwreck Beach in Po’ipū.

His current condition is not known.

According to witnesses, the man was body surfing at Shipwreck Beach at around 6:06 pm and had caught a wave when they noticed that he was unresponsive.

They brought him to shore and bystanders started CPR.

When fire fighters from the Kōloa station arrived on scene, they continued CPR on the victim and his pulse returned.

Medics then transported the victim to Wilcox Hospital, where he was treated and then prepared for an airlift to O‘ahu.
