Kauai County: body of elderly man found in water

NĀWILIWILI — The body of a 90-year-old man was found on Nov. 4 in shallow water near the Nāwiliwili Yacht Club.

No foul play is suspected.

The victim was identified as Roy Shiroma of Līhu’e.

A fisherman came upon the body at around 11:05 pm while catching ‘opae (freshwater shrimp) near the base of a floating wooden dock used by kayak companies.

The victim was pulled out of the water by a friend of the fisherman, who then started CPR.

When police arrived on scene, they continued CPR until medics arrived.

Efforts to revive Shiroma were unsuccessful.

He was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.

Autopsy results are pending.
