HANAKĀPĪ’AI — A man visiting from Oregon was rescued from the Hanakāpī’ai Trail yesterday afternoon after injuring his ankle while hiking.
The man, age 55, called Police Dispatch for assistance at about 1 p.m.
Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 flew to a nearby landing zone in the valley, and located the victim approximately one-quarter mile from the landing zone.
The man was put into a litter and carried back to the aircraft by three rescue workers and a bystander.
He was then flown to Princeville Airport where awaiting medics transported him to Wilcox Hospital for further treatment.
