Kauai residents asked to boil water because it may be contaminated

Kauai county officials are warning about 130 Kilauea residents to boil their water because it could be contaminated.

The affected areas include Kuhio highway from Wailapa Road to Kapuna Road, Huli and Waiakalua roads and portions of Ko’olau Road.

Officials say the water was compromised due to a cross connection with irrigation water on private property.

David Craddick, Department of Water manager and chief engineer said, "Right now we’re still not sure the water is safe. We know chemicals are not in it. So we know boiling will not concentrate the chemicals 21 boiling will get rid of the bacteriological contaminants, and other things that surface water from the Ka Loko Dam that got in the water system."

Officials will provide an update Saturday morning.
