Kauai under brown water advisory

Kauai is under a brown water advisory after a weekend of heavy rains.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris.

Green waste is not being accepted at the Hanalei, Kapa‘a and Hanapēpē transfer stations due to safety concerns caused by muddy conditions in their drop-off areas.

When conditions improve, the green waste service will resume.

In the meantime, residents may drop off their green waste at the Līhu’e transfer station or Kekaha Landfill.

The transfer stations and the landfill are open daily 7:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. except on holidays.
