Kauai under flash flood warning; flooding closes numerous roads

The National Weather Service has extended the flash flood warning for the island of Kauai until 9:45 a.m.

According to the NWS, radar continues to show areas of heavy rain moving northward across Kauai at about 20 miles per hour, with more heavy rain seen over the coastal waters to the south.

Kauai officials have also closed Hanalei Bridge due to flooding. Kuhio Highway is also closed in this area.

A flash flood warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low lying areas.

Runoff from this storm may also cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain.

In addition to Kuhio Highway in Hanalei, the following roads are closed due to flooding:
·         Weliweli Rd., Hapa Rd. and Ala Kinoiki in Kōloa Town.
·         Kekaha Rd. between Io Rd. and Kala Rd. in Kekaha
