Keiki take part in Shichi-go-san ceremony

It’s not every day that kids get dressed up in traditional Japanese clothing, but that’s what they did Sunday, for a special coming-of-age ceremony.

It was all part of the Japanese Cultural Center’s annual festival called "shichi go san" or "seven, five, three."
Those are lucky ages in Japan and organizers say it was a lucky day as well.

"We’re really lucky my mother set up the whole shichi go san picture taking for the kids so we um decided to come and bring them an make sure they got blessed  and and had their pictures taken," said Jena Kaneshiro, a parent.

The kids dressed up in kimonos, took pictures and were blessed by a shinto priest for long and prosperous lives.
