A family who is fighting to keep a 3 year-old girl alive was humbled by the outpouring of community support on Saturday.
They started collecting donations for a white elephant fundraiser to help raise money for Kelci Shigeta’s rising medical costs.
She is battling a rare kidney and brain disease, requiring a machine to help her breathe.
The family said every penny raised will help pay for that machine.
"It’s an amazing feeling, every single piece, every item that has come through our house felt like a piece of love that people were sending to Kelci," said Todd Nakaoka, Kelci’s uncle.
Their goal was to raise $20,000 and they believe they reached that.
Donations are still being accepted at any Bank of Hawaii location.
