Friends have confirmed the death of Kumu Hula O’Brian Eselu.
According to www.mele.com, Eselu began his career as a comic hula dancer with a local lu`au show, followed by a career as an accomplished musician regularly singing as part of a Hawaiian trio.
He was later chosen by a kupuna to learn the art of hula in the traditional Hawaiian way.
Eselu was recognized as one of Hawaii‘s foremost kumu hula, winning many awards for his style of hula at the Merrie Monarch Hula Competition each year.
After launching his singing career with his album KE KUMU, Eselu won the 1998 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Most Promising Artist.
