Lava returns to Pu’u O’o Crater

On the Big Island, lava returned to Pu’u O’o Crater Saturday morning.

It’s been 21 days since the crater floor collapsed and lava started erupting out of a fissure that opened southwest of Pu’u O’o.

Four days later lava stopped erupting, until Saturday.

Officials with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say the lava is confined to the Pu’u O’o Crater and so far poses no threat to any structures.
