Lawyers take over Action Line this week

Need legal help?

Starting Tuesday, volunteers from the Young Lawyers Division will be answering phone calls to our Action Line Department.

Issues ranging from helping to manage payments for your loan modification programs to knowing your rights as a tenant are just some of the topics lawyers volunteering at KHON2′s Action Line this week will be able to help you with.

"We won’t be giving legal advice per say more legal information directing the caller into the right locations the right agencies that they should be contacting so that they may start moving forward with whatever claims they may have," said Levi Hookano, Young Lawyers Division president.

One of three topics lawyers can address is debt management with loan modification programs.

"For people who have a hard time making payments we’re going to try and help them out where they can modify their loans that they can manage their payments not fall into the trap of more debt," Hookano says.

Have an issue with your tenant or landlord? Lawyers who specialize in the rights of both parties can help.

"Mostly it’s resolving disputes between landlord and tenants on what the tenants rights are as well as the landlord’s rights if they have a tenant that’s causing problems," Hookano says.

And, Thursday viewers can call about anything related to child support and custody with divorce.

"Alimony payments, child support payments and issues where a family member may move out of the state and what kind of actions have to be taken if they’re going to modify any child support orders or custody orders," Hookano says.

The lawyers will not be soliciting clients, but providing resources on how you can get the right help to resolve your problem.

"We’re here to just provide them the first step on their journey through the legal system so that they’re not lost so that we can provide a guiding hand," Hookano says.

To get help from our volunteer lawyers call Action Line at 591-0222 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
