Lei draping marks start of King Kamehameha Day celebrations

Thousands of flowers were draped over the King Kamehameha statue downtown Friday in honor of the Hawaiian Monarch.

The lei draping ceremony is just one of the events celebrating Kamehameha this weekend.

Saturday the annual King Kamehameha celebration floral parade will take over Waikiki.

That starts Saturday morning at 9 and will end at Kapiolani Park around noon.

The official King Kamehameha Day holiday is this Monday, and will mean the closure of state and city offices.
