Letter: HMSA-HPH leaders must trim executive overhead

A column by Dr. Mark Mugiishi of HMSA and Ray Vara of Hawaii Pacific Health touted the proposed alliance between their companies (“Isle health care needs major shakeup,” Star-Advertiser, Feb. 22, Island Voices). It noted various undeniable strains on Hawaii’s health care system and claimed that the combination of their organizations would improve “quality, affordability, access and efficiency.” Sounds great, but they did not tell us how they would achieve this. For such dramatic claims, dramatic evidence is needed.
