Letter: Leave department chief selection to committees

An online comment to the story, “8 apply to serve as HPD’s interim chief” (Star-Advertiser, June 18), thinks it is OK for the mayor to pick the police and fire chiefs. Apparently, the commenter was clearly not around during the Frank Fasi/Jeremy Harris era, when fire department personnel were persuaded to hold election signs and participate in fundraisers in order to get promoted.
