State Department of Transportation spokesman Dan Meizenzahl says the Lihue airport was shutdown just before 7 p.m.after an odor nearby affected a handful of TSA employees working at the airport.
Officials do not know if the affected employees were treated at the scene or transported to an area hospital.
Witnesses say five employees were transported in an ambulance to an area hospital.
Meinzahl says the airport reopened just before 8 p.m. and no flights were affected.
Kauai Fire officials are on the scene investigating, but airport operations are back to normal.
