A local solar company was awarded one of the largest government contracts in the state.
Island Pacific Energy is the only local company out of three selected to install photovoltaic facilities at various military bases across the state.
The company’s president says they will hire more than two dozen employees to install the systems.
"So in this case because we are a locally owned company we will be the ones that own, operate the system and sell the power so that money stays within the state and doesn’t go to a mainland company," said Joseph Saturnia, Island Pacific Energy president.
The contract is valued up to $500 million.
