The attorney for a man accused of placing a homemade bomb at a Kaimuki residence says his client was being treated for mental problems at the time of the alleged incident.
Patrick Lopes was arrested Wednesday morning in Chinatown on firearm and explosives charges.
Authorities say on March 11th a Kaimuki resident found a pipe bomb planted near a gas line.
"I think there’s a mental aspect to it you know he was under a doctor’s care and so I think there’s some problems there so that’s what we have to investigate we have the authorization to talk to his own doctor and we’ll go from there and see what makes him tick."
A judge will decide next week whether Lopes should be released on bail.
