BWS officials are still trying to determine the size of the break, but say 50 customers are currently without water. The break has also caused a large sinkhole to form, forcing the closure of Kainalu Drive between Kailua Road and Kuukama Street. Traffic on Kailua Road near Kainalu Drive is being contra-flowed.
Police officers are on the scene to help direct traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to use alternate routes where possible.
A water wagon has been setup at 252 Kailua Road and a spigot to a hydrant on Kainalu Drive near Kuukama Street is available to provide water to those affected. This repair is expected to continue throughout the evening.
