Man acquitted of killing ex-girlfriend now on trial for kidnapping

A man acquitted of killing his ex-girlfriend in Ewa Beach was back in a Honolulu courtroom Wednesday.

Toi Nofoa is now on trial for kidnapping and terroristic threatening.

Prosecutors say in 2008 Nofoa kidnapped Royal Kaukani after she got off work in Ko Olina and drove her to a gas station in Haleiwa.

Maurice Arrisgado, prosecuting attorney says:”She knows he has a gun, threatened her with it, he starts unloading on her, yelling at her, threatening her. ‘We’re both going to die’”

“The evidence in this case will show that no gun was ever seen by any witness no gun was recovered in evidence or by the police during the course of the entire investigation,” Craig Nagamine, Nofoa’s attorney says.

Kaukani was shot to death in 20’09.
Nofoa was tried for her murder, but was found not guilty after his attorney argued there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder scene.

The kidnapping trial will continue tomorrow with a recording of a 9-1-1 call made by Kaukani.
