The Matson shipping company has been sailing to Hawaii for over 100 years.
And with the anniversary of the December 7 attack on Pearl Harbor just two days away the Matson Shipping Foundation honored it’s long connection with the military here by donating $10,000 to the Arizona Memorial.
"What it allows us to do is keep the theme of remembrance and education..part of what matson does it lets us do is restore the memorial for the first time in since it’s inception," said Jeff Bell, Pacific Historic Parks.
Memorial officials say the donation will kickstart a new fundraising effort.
