Cretton said the film follows a musician who just lost his mother.
He describes it as a mix between a musical and a narrative.
"On the surface its a movie about this indie art sub-culture, but the heart of the movie is about family, and family love and the pain of losing somebody," he says.
This is not the first time one of Cretton’s films have been Sundance Film Festival.
His short film "Short Term 12" won the Jury Prize in 2009.
The Sundance Film Festival will be held from the 19th through the 29th this month in Utah.
