Maui outlet mall focus of community meeting

Plans for a sixty-five acre retail development project in Kihei, Maui are being discussed at a community meeting Tuesday night.

According to the California-based Eclipse Development Group, Piilani Promenade would include a 415,000 square foot power center and 300,000 square foot "Maui outlets."

The front of the shopping complex would stretch three-quarters of a mile along Piilani Highway.

The Kihei Community Association is hosting Tuesday night’s meeting.

"We try not to go in with a pre-formed opinion," said Mike Moran. "That’s the purpose of having a community meeting, is to listen to the community. I’d say a lot of the people participating are against development."

Moran says they invited the principals from Eclipse Development Group, but never heard back from them.

The meeting starts at 6:30 Tuesday at the Kihei Charter Middle School.
