MAUI: Woman bit by shark near Makena Landing

DLNR officials say a shark bit a woman on her thigh in the waters near Makena Landing.

This happened just before 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Witnesses reported seeing a shark about eight to ten feet long in the area.

The woman was taken to the hospital.

Warning signs have been posted and the beach has been closed.

Officials say the woman, a 51 year old visitor from California, was taken to the hospital.

Warning signs have been posted and the beach will be closed until noon on Sunday.

This is around the same area where last weekend a lifeguard said he was followed by a shark about three yards from shore.
