A Maui woman was sentenced Monday to 44 months in prison for embezzling approximately $163,744 from a Wailuku credit union from 2008 to 2009.
Amy Waikiki, 36, pled guilty to embezzlement and a related offense, regarding her position as a teller at the Kulia Ohana Federal Credit Union.
Officials say Waikiki had stolenf rom 34 credit union member accounts by making 224 unauthorized transactions.
She worked as a credit union teller from August 8, 2008, to June 25, 2009.
It was noted that she had lied to her former employer, the insurance agency, about having cancer, and to the District Court and probation officers by claiming to have a job on Maui while she had lived in California without employment.
