What Tammy wants to get on the shelf is called Wee N See…
"It started with a pregnancy test and it evolved to basically a paper that would show up a picture when they peed," says Umeno.
That’s right it’s a potty training aid…something Umeno says she could have used a few years back.
"Some people have absolutely no trouble potty training their child, it’s like nothing to them. But that was not the case for us. and when we finally got him into pre-school I’m like okay wonderful. He’s in preschool, he’s potty trained. And then I found out I was pregnant again, and I’m like okay we cannot do that again," says Umeno.
So she got to work on finding a better way to get children onto that potty…
"I was even making papers in my kitchen. I had strings hanging in my kitchen, making my own papers, trying if this works, trying all different products," says Umeno.
Wee N See papers are flushable and biodegradable…
The mother of two says the inventing process got a little scary…
"You need to go see a patent lawyer. and I’m like, "I’m a teacher, I don’t know if I can afford a lawyer. Lawyers are a lot of money, but I knew in the long run that would make it safer. it would protect me," says Umeno.
Starting March 7th you can help get Tammi’s product to Walmart shelves.
