Kauai-born Daphne Sanchez says singing makes her world go round.
"All my life I have been singing/dancing, the stage is basically my second home," said Sanchez.
The Kauai Community College junior and host of the Jam Room a teen talent and open mic gathering spot for kids, believes the performing arts is a great way to keep teens on the straight and narrow.
" Its a venue for kids to go to express develop themselves in a positive way which directly benefit the community ">
The oldest of two children born as 1st generation Filipino Americans to a dental assistant and auto mechanic Daphne says finding a balance between home and school was difficult.
" I’ve definitely had to deal with going to a public school being influenced there and then coming home to a more traditional filipino household but because of that it made me a stronger person more independent."
Currently cast in the musical South Pacific the 19 year-old started working on her debut album 3 years ago.
"I hope that people will hear me out and you know people from Kauai even though its a small island there are talented people out there."
The Wailua house lots resident travels across the globe as a professional singer and hopes to take her talents to new heights as Miss Hawaii.
" I feel I have what it takes and I love what I do and because I travel including Japan promoting Kauai, it would just give me an amazing opportunity."
