Missing hiker in Kauai

A hiker has been reported missing Saturday afternoon after witnesses saw him get swept away as he attempted to cross Hanakapiai stream.  The identity of the missing man is not known.  He was described by witnesses as being of Asian descent, between 40-50 years old, wearing dark clothing and a backpack, and using two hiking sticks.

The search has been called off due to inclement weather and will resume Sunday morning.

Anyone who may know the man’s identity is asked to call KPD’s non-emergency dispatch line at 241-4711.
