A mistrial was declared Monday in the case of a Wahiawa doctor accused of a murder for hire scheme.
Doctor Dennis Ayon is charged with criminal solicitation.
He is accused of asking a patient to kill his ex-girlfriend.
His attorney says the patient was in love with Ayon and set him up.
"The jurors weren’t able to reach a unanimous verdict. The prosecution and I’m sure the defense would like to thank the jurors for their service in this case. Both sides go back to the drawing table and the goal is to bring this man to justice," says deputy prosecutor Adrian Dhakhwa.
A retrial is set for May.
